Important Information

Some important information about your WildBlue service.

Fair Access Policy

To ensure that all WildBlue customers have equitable access to the WildBlue Network, WildBlue has implemented a Fair Access Policy for each of our service plans. Each service plan has a rolling 30-day limit, or Usage Threshold, on the amount of data that can be uploaded and downloaded through the WildBlue service before your speeds are slowed. WildBlue will notify you via email if your usage reaches 80% or more of a Usage Threshold.

If you exceed a threshold, your access speeds will be reduced (typically to 128 kbps for downloading and 28 kbps for uploading) until your usage is 70% or less of both usage thresholds.

Below is a chart of the Usage Thresholds for each service plan and some examples of what the numbers mean.

Monthly Thresholds

Service Level Download
Threshold
Upload
Threshold
Estimated Usage*
Value Package 7,500MB 2,300MB Download 2,500 songs, 7,500 pictures or approximately 300 videos

Pro Package 17,000MB 5,000MB Download 5,600 songs, 17,000 pictures or 680 videos

* These numbers are estimated based on average file sizes of 3MB per song, 1MB per photo and 25MB for a 3 minute video.

What to expect from your WildBlue service

Service and Speed

Your WildBlue service will be significantly faster than your old dial-up Internet service. However, you should be aware that satellite-based Internet service has a longer latency, or delay, due to the time it takes for the signal to travel to and from the satellite. Your speeds may be slower during peak hours from 5 p.m. - 10 p.m. when the number of simultaneous users on the WildBlue network is greater. Websites that are content-heavy, especially those with a lot of graphics and streaming video, will load more slowly than simpler websites.

Equipment and Weather

Be sure not to move your dish after the installer has pointed it at the satellite. Moving the dish will cause a loss of your Internet connection and could result in a chargeable service call. Heavy rain or snow at your home may cause a temporary disturbance in your service, either through a loss of connectivity or slower speeds. Your service is controlled by a "gateway" — a remote WildBlue station covering your geographic area. Severe weather at your gateway may also impact your service experience from time to time.

VPNs

WildBlue does not provide customer support, configuration or any troubleshooting for Virtual Private Networks (VPN). Some of our customers have found that certain VPNs (especially SSL-based VPNs) do work over the WildBlue network but that speeds may slow down considerably. IP-SEC VPNs don't work well on the WildBlue system and are not recommended.

WildBlue's value added resellers offer enterprise-level hardware solutions for VPNs. Click here to see a list.

Limited Warranty

All WildBlue parts carry a 2-year limited warranty. Service calls under the installation limited warranty are covered for the first 90 days of service. Complete details on the WildBlue Limited Warranty.
